YOU ARE A

Director

Studying is an opportunity to develop yourself in order to contribute as much as possible to society later on. You enjoy the opportunities that your studies offer you for self-development and to contribute to social issues. You realise that studying is a privilege. A chance to make a difference! You have a strong sense of responsibility and want to mean something to others. Therefore, you are involved in current and social issues but also in volunteer work. You commit yourself to a committee, or the board of your study association. You may represent your fellow students on the program committee or student council. With all these activities, you try to be not only a good student but also a good person.

Strength

Your idealism gives you a strong drive with which you can get a lot done, for others and for yourself.

Pitfall

You want to contribute to society now and you do, but studying is also something you do for the long term. Try to keep in mind that the knowledge and skills you gain will help you have more impact later.

Professional perspective

A board position with a socially engaged organisation. This can be the government but also, for example, an educational institution or a foundation.

Tips from VU Amsterdam
  • The student councils represent students within the university. Joining them gives you the opportunity to do something for your fellow students and develop yourself.
  • In the Program Committee you can work together with your fellow students and lecturers on the quality of your program. At the beginning of the academic year, the PC often looks for new student members.
